Tips to treat Otitis

Otitis refers to infection of ear. Based on which part of ear get infected, there are three types of otitis.
  1. Otitis externa - external ear infection, pain when touched or pulled.
  2. Otitis media - middle ear infection, air filled ear spaced clogged with fluid.
  3. Otitis interna - inner ear infection(labyrinth), results in vertigo.
Symptoms for Otitis:
  1. Drainage from ear (otorrhoea).
  2. Earache.
  3. Itching.
  4. Chillness will be felt.
  5. Hearing loss.
  6. Irritation.
  7. Vomitting.
  8. Fever.
Causes for Otitis:
   
  1. Swimming in polluted water enters into ear canal.
  2. Skin damage, infected with  bacteria near the ears.
  3. Fungal infection (atomycosis)
  4. Middle ear infection are by viral, bacteria, or fungal pathogens.
  5. Eustachian tube dysfunction.
Treatments:
  1. Ear drops and antibiotics (amoxillin) to fight infection.
  2. Corticosteroids to reduce itching.
  3. Burow's solution to treat bacterial and fungal external otitis.
  4. Insertion of tympanostomy tube into the eardrum to reduce recurrence of infection.
Natural treatments to Swimmer ear, 

To prevent ear infections,
  • Avoid swimming in polluted water.
  • Avoid inserting anything into the ear canal.
  • Using buds, clean your ear, to remove drainage after swimming or bath.
  • Avoid washing your hair, if any infection or wounds in external ear.
  • Infants vaccinated with pneumococcal conjugate vaccines to prevent acute otitis.
